GULKAND MILKSHAKE
Gulkand is a jam made out rose petals and sugar.Normally you could find this gulkand in the making of pan or betel leaves as a stuffing along with many things.I recently came across a milkshake made out of gulkand and was quite impressed the way it tasted in one the ice cream outlets here in Bangalore. The addition of vanilla ice cream makes it creamy and while blending it becomes frothy and thick.Did you know that gulkand finds a good place in Ayurveda and has been in use to improve digestion and appetite. My grandma used to say it acts as a laxative and cools the body. For a child who refuses to drink milk, try giving this drink as it also helps in building child immunity.
I have used store bought gulkand easily available in all stores. You coild also get it from the local wala,if you live in India.Else you can make the gulkand at home by cooking it in sugar and a splash of water and waiting till it reaches the jam like consistency. The key for the tatse here is boil and cool the milk in the fridge for an hour or so for best results. As we all know of the health benefits of rose petals and gulkand, why don’t you try a desi version milkshake for this summer to beat the heat.Try and let me know..
