  1. Boil water.
  2. In a vessel add rice flour and sesame oil. Pour hot water over it.
  3. Knead well and mix to form a soft dough.
  4. In a pan add water and moong dal.
  5. Cover with a lid and cook.
  6. Moong dal is cooked.
  7. Strain the water.
  8. In a blender add cooked moong dal, powdered jaggery,cardamom powder and grated coconut.
  9. Grind to a fine paste.
  10. Make small balls out of the filling. If you find the filling watery add it in a pan and cook to remove excess moisture. You can add a teaspoon of ghee to make it combine well.
  11. Make rice dough balls as well.
  12. Make a cup like shape out of the dough.
  13. Place the filling in it.
  14. Close it and seal like a modak.
  15. Make al the modaks similarly. In a greased idli plate place all the modaks in it.
  16. Close it with a lid and steam.
  17. Modakams are ready.
