JEERA POLI

Jeera Poli is a maida and rava based sweet recipe that is made during Boghi, Tamil New Year or Diwali ,down south in Tamil Nadu. The pooris are deep fried and then soaked in sugar syrup called jeera. Day after tomorrow is Tamil New Year’s Day and this will be an awesome dessert for the meal. The rava and maida are mixed with ghee and water and kneaded softly to a dough. After about half an hour they are shaped in to pooris, folded and made in to triangles, before deep frying them in oil and immersing in sugar syrup for a while. The process is quite simple and can be made even by beginners. This best part is this sweet can be stored in an airtight container and also this can be made in advance.

In some places this is also called Bombay Khaja. For the crispy outer of the puri, it is suggested to use rava. I have added maida, rava and ghee along with water for the making of these delicious polis. My mother used to make this now and then as all in my family are fond of sweets. For the festivals these small triangular puris are an awesome part of the feast. Though in some parts of Tamil Nadu is made on the Boghi day, it is essential in my household and in many Tamilian homes to make Poli for the Tamil New Year. So I choose to make this for the upcoming festival. I already have Paruppu Poli, Coconut Poli and Paal Poli in my blog, do check them out as well.
