KANDA POHA

Kanda Poha is a staple food of Maharashtra and is eaten with awe for breakfast. This is made with beaten rice or poha added with potatoes(batata) and onion(kanda) and cooked to perfection. It is an easy to make dish and is also a good lunch box option. One my friends who is a Maharashtrian, taught me the exotic recipe which was not only quick but easy and tasty as well.Plenty of onions and boiled and cubed potatoes gives this recipe a unique and flavourful feel.As many of you might be aware of Poha in South Indian cuisine would be either Puli Aval which is tamarind based or a pepper flavoured one called Milagu Aval. Also there is a sweet version with jaggery called Vella Aval and sugar based Aval Kesari. Check out these recipes from my blog.

Poha is easily digestable and eating regularly can prevent deficiency or anaemia. You can also get Vitamin B,Carbohydrates and proteins from Poha.It is widely used mostly for snacks like Poha Chivda and also sweets like Aval Payasam.I have these two recipes in my blog as well which are liked by my family very much.Besides all these, thick poha is best suited for making kanda poha and thin varieties are usually suited for making chivda.I have a Poha Chivda recipe in my blog other aval recipes. So when you run out of options and wondering what to do for breakfast, try out this simple yet fulfilling poha variety and enjoy.
